meetings

it's parent conference week here, and i'm thinking of the
top 3 things about spring conferences -
3.  listening to parents and learning about their children's lives outside the classroom.
2.  hearing what our students say about their school days.
1.  looking at all the progress children have made since our fall reports.  a joy!
 thoughts about parent/teacher meetings?

  2. Must be hard work with all these meetings, trying to give a good idea of how the child is doing, really listen to what the parents and the child is telling you. But I'm sure it's very interesting and rewarding too.

Thoughts? Well, to make the child and parents comfortable enough to say what they want to say. But I'm sure that's always your intention. And try to figure out how THIS child can thrive and do even better, maybe through a joined comittment to one or two little changes - something that the parents, the child and the teacher can agree on. Sometimes a child need extra time to understand, but there is also the opposite case where the child needs more challenges not to be bored.

I'm sure your running will give you extra energy to go through this hectic period :-)

  3. You must be a wonderful teacher! Your students are fortunate to have someone teaching them who cares so much.

Most of my P/T meetings go well. Occasionally they get interesting with Isaac because of his Aspergers but most are positive and constructive.

May you have plenty of energy and focus!

  4. Got both mine in a couple of weeks. This time we have to take Princess Child with us to the meeting (she's in Year 6 the last year before high school). We've never taken the child with us to the parent teacher meetings before - I don't think I like the sound of it - because I so rarely get to talk to the teacher now that I'm working and not doing pick-up and drop-off - I think I would like the opportunity to talk alone. Do you have the kids along with the parents for the meetings?

  5. It must be so rewarding to have these meetings with parents (I mean, for the most part). We will be scheduling one soon with our son's preschool teacher as we try to decide whether to start him in kindergarten in the Fall or do a TK program. (His fifth birthday is August 30th.) Decisions, decisions...
    Have a great weekend, Noreen!

  7. thank you for your thoughts.

@janine, at my students' ages, we do not have the children participate. they come at grade 6 and older.
@theresa - your decision is really important. sometimes it is good to wait, and if you ever want to, now is the time! let me know what you decide.
