monday colors - ikea

this should really say, bring new stuff into your home.
for life, you need plants, animals, and friends.  still, i like the black and white patterns.

a 252 square foot model apartment.  this cozy seat was next to a table for two, and would make nice extra seating when guests came.  the storage on either side and above this area was really well designed.
the couch/bed in the same small space.
for jamie who shares a daily dose of quirkiness - an enormous hot dog, with a disclaimer.
joy to you.

casual friday - i'm farming

this is for people who enjoy popular music, and those of us with teens in the house.
farmers singing about farming.

Lyrics:
When I'm up at seven, the sunrise gives me a glimpse of heaven
I get right to work, a farmer's life can be a little berserk yeah
This is how I roll, I feed the cattle till their stomachs are full
Treat em right, that's my belief,
What's for dinner? I say beef!

Gotta Feed Everybody
Gotta Feed Everybody
Gotta Feed Everybody
(Uh-Huh) I work out (side!)

When I step to the bunk (yeah)
This is what I see (Uh-huh)
All the hungry cattle are staring at me

I got passion for my plants and I ain't afraid to show it show it show it show it
I'm farming and I grow it

When I'm in my tractor, I got more power than an arc reactor
And when I'm in the field, I try to raise crops to maximum yield
This is how I roll, without me the world would be outta control
The hours I work, there is no equal
Gotta feed the mouths of hungry people

Gotta Feed Everybody
Gotta Feed Everybody
Gotta Feed Everybody
(Uh-Huh) I work out (side!)

When I step to the bunk (yeah)
This is what I see (Uh-huh)
All the hungry cattle are staring at me

I got passion for my plants and I ain't afraid to show it show it show it show it

I'm farming and I grow it

Water, water, water, water, water
Water, water, water, water, water
Water, water, water, water, water

a smile to start your weekend.
joy to you.

ocean 2

inspired by mark rothko's 3-color paintings - swabbed decks, blue sea, and cloudy sky.
a storm coming in.  we were on the beach waiting for this little boat to take us to the ship.
an evening of rain.  the ship just pulled a see-through roof over the pool, and relaxing continued.
looking back with feet on land.  a beautiful thing.

christmas in july

it's time to think about christmas,
not in the religious celebration sense, but in the gift-giving and holiday kindness sense.

how about we stop here for a minute, while it's still july, and think about a gift we have received recently.

and then, let's contemplate a gift we can give.
who can we surprise with our christmas cheer this week?

pond

 lovely pond.  see the ducks?
they are climbing now onto the gaps between the white walking area.
i wanted to go see the ducks, and they wanted to come see me.  a happy meeting.  well..
happy for me.  the ducks wanted bread or crackers.
next time i'll know what to bring to the pond.
joy to you.

monday colors - echinoderms

montessori lessons include scientific names.  echinoderms are ocean invertebrates, such as sand dollars, sea urchins, and sea cucumbers.  they generally have 5-point radial symmetry.
echinoderms can regenerate a part that is cut off, their ossified skeletons contribute to limestone formations, and they have no freshwater or land members.

science is a beautiful thing.
happy monday!

casual friday - nassau signs

loafing is an excellent word, and very descriptive.  there were folks around who looked like they would certainly loaf here if not for this clear directive.  hawking - also unusual and interesting.
i took a pretty picture of this sign, but really the area was close and urban.  this is what it looked like.
this sign was on a blank wall.  on call for what??

how secret is it?

fine crafts, no entrance.
grand central hotel.
there were many more.  "daddy's little pirate" and some rum wordplay.
happy weekend!

cruise workers

These men were 30 feet over the ocean.  Our smaller boat was pulling up to let passengers board.
This Carnival ship had a casino and lots of bars, and they had childcare available until 3 a.m.  Perhaps they needed the security staff late at night?  Don't ask me, I was sleeping.
The waiter memorized our names on the first night, and although we moved among four tables shared with our large family, he was never confused.
Besides being with family, the best thing about a cruise is not have to grocery shop, cook, and clean.  Knowing how much work it is to do those for a family gives you a wonderful appreciation for all the labor going on around you.

The decks were swabbed each morning and evening, while chairs put out for daytime use were stacked at night.
I have no photos of the army working in the kitchen.  Too busy eating, perhaps?

(The trick with a cruise is not to eat the buffet, but to turn around and ask yourself if you are even hungry!  Otherwise you may certainly gain weight.)

Here's to the workers.  Many thanks.

miami 1

as we flew through florida, clouds and marshes changed to urban ft. lauderdale.
after a cab ride to miami, it was time for flip-flops and swimming.
south beach for dinner,

and sandy feet before bed.
do you enjoy traveling?
