back to work

good morning!  happy new year!  it's time to go back to work.  you wake up, go outside, smell the flowers, and begin your day.
on your walk to work, you see mostly normal things, but some unusual ones, too.
a mermaid in the river under the bridge?  now that's a first.
you step off the sidewalk to accommodate the construction in front of the statehouse.
you glance up, and what?!  batman?
you can barely see him way up there, but tell yourself to be calm.  he's protecting your city.
uh-oh, your town really needs some new bike lanes.  another wreck.  luckily, the squad is already there, but it looks like the biker lost a hand.
the police are there, too, and
the bicyclist is smiling at something the emergency people said.  he's okay.
the next few blocks are pretty normal.  someone is working with a fire hydrant,
 a dog is sniffing around.
but what's this?  people riding on ostriches?  you shake your head.  it can't be!
you look the other way, and all is normal.  the horse and buggy ride toward you.  by the time you look for the ostriches again, they're gone.  maybe you're imagining things?
here's work at last.  you stop to get some cash, and
go inside.  it's a new year, and time to get things done!

this lego city is called columbus, real and imagined, and is part of the think outside the brick exhibition at the columbus, ohio museum of art.

here's to an interesting 2013!

  1. Wonderful! You find the best stuff, Noreen! Happy New Year to you, dear! We head back to school tomorrow (sniff), but the short week should help with re-entry. I'm not thrilled to be heading back into homework and early risings, but it does feel good to be getting back into routines. Settling in feels good.
