kitchen counter cooking school - top 3

top 3 quotes author kathleen flinn uses in this interesting and useful book:

3.  julia child:  for most people, the only real stumbling block is fear of failure.  in cooking you've got to have a what-the-hell attitude.

2.  andy warhol:  they say that time changes things but you actually have to change them yourself.

1.  penny de los santos:  you have to give yourself that dream assignment.  no one is going to give it to you.

besides the quotes, the meat (pun intended) of the book is excellent.  my friend lauren also wrote about it.  you can learn more through kathleen's blog.
a helpful and down-to-earth beauty.  what's cooking?

  1. I just read Lauren's post too! I love an inspiring cookbook. Right now I have too many and must make a point of using them. My fave quote if about giving yourself the dream assignment. I feel like we do that with our blogs, don't you? Teri

  4. Oh my gosh, Noreen! Have you seen my blog? Are we on the same wavelength or what????? I just love the approach you took with this book review. I need some retail therapy and I'm going to go order the hardback of this book tonight. No more relying on the kindle for me!

  5. "..fear of failure. in cooking you've got to have a what-the-hell attitude." well, the first night i cooked for my son's dad when i was 18, i made pasta with a pasta sauce. the sauce was so disgusting i had to wash it off the pasta and serve spaghetti and cheese... i have a fear of failure when it comes to cooking...

  6. @teri - absolutely, i agree with you about our blogs. let's keep that assignment!
@margie - feel free to share, and thanks for visiting.
@heather - i'm with you about the andy warhol quote. let's keep working on it!
@lauren - so funny and wonderful. it's great sharing things we love with each other.
@leah - it's amazing how what happened a long time ago effects how we behave today - like my fire/eyebrow incident. so let's work on that what-the-he** attitude - your kids love your cooking, i'm sure!

  7. Love the quotes, really good ones! I try hard to have the what-the-hell-attitude more often. I think it works when I manage to hold on to the attitude :-)

  8. You and Lauren have me all inspired to pick up cooking novels. I just know I'm in for a treat if you both love it. Wednesday nights are go-out nights for us as Townsend has a early evening hip-hop class. The night before I made a quinoa dish for the first time. It didn't go over too well. But I'm determined to make my family like quinoa, so I'm off to find a better recipe.

  9. @maria - agreed!
@theresa - if you can cook quinoa in a way your family likes, you don't need this book. but it's still fun to read. please share the quinoa recipe when you find it!
