great ohio river swim 2013

 wait, what?
the air temperature was 54 degrees, and swimmers with marker numbers on their arms and chips on their ankles were getting ready to jump into the water.
from the bridge, i'd thought it was a kayaking event, but no.
they're for safety, and paddled right along with some swimmers.
men swam first, no wetsuits allowed.
 ready, get set,
 go!
while the men swam, the women jumped into the the great ohio.
the water was 77 F or so, warm by open water swim standards.
they swam across the ohio toward kentucky and back again, downriver slightly.
it was delightful to see their enthusiasm.

athletic beauty.
joy to you!

  1. Oh that's great! Our ocean temp has dropped to about 71, so a little cooler, but right now the air is warm. That makes getting in and out easier, for sure! What fun this must have been!
