columbus museum of art
this glass art, "endeavor" fills the room with light and color. when we have a dreary day, and cold coming in, it is wonderful to remember the warmth waiting at the museum. no need to wear your coat, just walk and enjoy. happy weekend!

morning run
running on the flood wall trail in northern kentucky. sporadic rain. we passed a flock of canadian geese. looking down from a bridge, we saw a crew team in their long, thin boats. although the temperature was in the low 50s, some wore no shirt. they were frozen, oars out, still in the water - waiting for a command. 10 1/2 miles.

johnny bench night
Johnny Bench is 63 now, and made a short speech before the game. They named a street around the ballpark for him. It was September 17, 2011. On September 17, 1983, the Reds had the first "Johnny Bench Night" when he retired. It was a joy to see someone so devoted and excellent be celebrated with standing ovations.

outside
Going outside during the school day was a joy. The sun shone, and the children were excited to learn about the plants and animals in our biome - the temperate forest. I took no pictures, but made lots of memories -
- the sunlight in the canopy - looking up and seeing the undersides of leaves bright yellow-green
- children thinking, looking, finding vertebrates and invertebrates, asking questions to find out about the life around us
- boys and girls who rarely slow down for art very seriously sketching the forest
- hearing students just introduced to the terms yesterday use deciduous and coniferous
- the breeze refreshing us, and bringing floating leaves
- two hawks soaring as we walked back into the school building
We are making a terrarium of the layers of the temperate forest. Older children began by digging the bedrock level.

rouster's apple house
this beautiful apple orchard is no longer going to sell apples! we will still be able to pick blueberries there, but the apple house was a wonderful place, filled with delicious and interesting things. and the apples were amazing. very sad to see them go.
