many fine adventures II

it's a beautiful time of year to go to the golden lamb.

come in the front door, up the steps, and you can relax in the
foyer in front of the huge fireplace.
the fall menu is comfort food, hot and delicious.
it's not fancy, just warm and historic.

we visited to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary, and
so far life's been full of fine adventures.

joy to you and your loved ones.

in falling snow - top 5

here are the top 5 reasons to read this book about a group of women running a hospital near paris during wwI:

5.  lots of action!

4.  it reads like nonfiction because of the accurate historical details.

3.  time runs back and forth, from iris as a young nurse to iris as a great-grandmother.  events also moves from australia to paris.

2.  the story of the field hospital, royaumont, started by scottish women in a cistercian abby dating to the thirteenth century, is fascinating.

1.  iris and francis, and the other hardworking nurses and doctors, are well-rounded and believable.  they're interesting!

these five leave out almost as much as they include.

historical beauty.
happy weekend!

moleskine questions at london design festival

illustrate objects, ideas, systems, and details you could not live without in a private space or the public domain.

examine what needs improving in your personal or professional life.

draw something you would like to design, but haven't had the chance yet.

those are the three challenges put to 70 designers invited to participate in the moleskine sketch relay at the london design festival sept. 14 - 22nd.

the marvelous tina at colour living participated.  she also posted other professionals' work.  you can check out her post here.

for those of us not in the art or design world, the questions are still interesting.

objects, ideas, systems, and details that you couldn't live without - hmm - note that doesn't include people, but might include the library, a bike, or grandma lea's meatballs.

things that need improving?  well, check out tina's list.  it's pretty thorough!

something new that hasn't been designed yet?
thoughts on this one?

great ohio river swim 2013

 wait, what?
the air temperature was 54 degrees, and swimmers with marker numbers on their arms and chips on their ankles were getting ready to jump into the water.
from the bridge, i'd thought it was a kayaking event, but no.
they're for safety, and paddled right along with some swimmers.
men swam first, no wetsuits allowed.
 ready, get set,
 go!
while the men swam, the women jumped into the the great ohio.
the water was 77 F or so, warm by open water swim standards.
they swam across the ohio toward kentucky and back again, downriver slightly.
it was delightful to see their enthusiasm.

athletic beauty.
joy to you!
