tar beach
on friday i read a chair for my mother by vera william to my students. the beautiful pictures reminded me of faith ringgold's books and quilt art. tar beach is about a child who takes a trip in her imagination, while lying on the roof of the family's apartment building. she's with her brother in the lower left corner of the quilt, which is displayed at the columbus museum of art. colorful beauty.
