Hi Noreen, Greetings from Port Macquarie (we are on the coast about halfway between Sydney and Brisbane on the map). My husband eats kangaroo, the girls and I don't. The kangaroos often visit in the paddock behind our house. Yes you can go for a hike and see a koala quite often. We also have a koala hospital here that looks after them. We often have them in the tree in front of our house. Platypus aren't as easily seen. I may have seen one in a creek when I was little but my kids haven't seen one. Let me know if you have any more questions. cheers Janine
hi from australia! yes noreen some people eat kangaroo. i don't, but apparently it's quite good. kangaroos are heavily populated in some parts of australia and are considered a pest. we have wallabies on our property { like a very small kangaroo } sometimes at night i hear koalas calling for a mate, it's a low gutteral growl... a strange noise for such a cute furry creature to make. i will email you a photo of a koala in one of the gum trees on our property. a lot of the creeks in the area i live in {northern nsw} have platypus in them. they are shy and not easily seen. whenever you choose to visit, my home is open to you and your family. p.s i live about 1cm below brisbane {on your map, on the left hand side} xx
Hi Noreen, I live in the city so of course no koalas. I don't eat kangaroo either but funny last night my husband took some Americans to dinner who are visiting from his head office in the states and he chose a restaurant with kangaroo and crocodile on the menu (it's not that common). Here in Melbourne we have beautiful cafes & restaurants and the coffee seriously rivals Italy..we have more of a european vibe with people who know their food.
I'm with you, I would love to visit Australia in the future. It just sounds like a magical (is)land full of animals, vegetation, and experiences I've never had before. I realize that must sound so funny to Leah who lives with these experiences every day. :)
